Unearthly - Cynthia Hand Lately it seems to be a habit of mine of jumping on a bandwagon after it’s long gone. Whereas most of my Goodreads friends were enthusiastically gushing over Hallowed I still had to pick up Unearthly, so finally after some not so subtle prodding in the right direction I finally caved and started my copy. My previous reading experience regarding books with angel storylines hasn’t been so great; (Hush Hush and Crescendo) being some of the ones I’d read, I liked them but Unearthly was another kettle of fish. With its interesting premise; of Clara a part angel whose been put on earth to do one thing; fulfil her purpose. Clara soon starts having visions of what her purpose is meant to be, her visions aren’t really clear cut, she tends to get them in small snippets, but the simple gist is that she has to save a boy, a boy she’s never set her eyes on before from a fire. So Clara’s mum uproots Clara and Jeffrey to Wyoming in order for Clara to fulfil her purpose. The premise had me hooked immediately, what was Clara’s purpose about? What would happen if she didn’t fulfil it? The small snippets of her vision didn’t really give much away, but as her visions began to move into much more detail, I became really impatient, I needed to know what was going on. But then as soon as Tucker Avery appeared in the book with his tawny hair, strong muscly arms, husky laugh, warm blue eyes and his dimple or dimples (I still don’t know!) you could say I was ever so slightly distracted. I found myself zipping through the other stuff; Clara practicing to fly, Clara and her vision about Christian and Clara at school with Angela and Wendy. I was just eagerly anticipating more scenes with Tucker and did I enjoy them or what? I loved how he was always teasing Clara at first, but then finally with Christian temporarily out of the picture they could spend more time together and we got to see a side of Tucker which had me endlessly swooning. But it also broke my heart when Clara was forced to focus on Christian and forget about Tucker I know Clara had to fulfil her purpose, but poor Tucker, after everything her had been through. “He’s not meeting my eyes any more. Were young, hesays. We’ve got lots of time to fall in love” Despite Christian being described as some sort of god, I’m sorry but I just couldn’t see it. It’s as Clara says you either prefer the “sexy rugged” look or the “sexy broody”, and I’m definitely a sexy rugged fan ;)Tucker aside, Unearthly was a fantastic read, finally a book with the story of angels which had me utterly engrossed throughout with its super tense moments, a swoon worthy character and an impressive premise! I know that this is one series that I look forward to continuing. There were many aspects which were left unanswered such as what is Clara’s mum hiding? why did Jeffrey go to the fire? And what will happen now that Clara hasn’t fulfilled her purpose? I need to know what’s going on!! And I also need my Tucker fix!I basically need Hallowed now! I must refrain myself from reading any reviews of Hallowed until I get my copy! Also can I say what is up with this cover? (the U.K) one, the U.S./Australia covers are absolutely gorgeous and we get stuck with this one??? What is up with that?U.K/U.S/Aus
