Hallowed - Cynthia Hand 3.5 stars (Really really close to 4 stars)Sorry guys who haven't read Hallowed yet, but with all my spoiler tags, there's not much to my review :-/ Hallowed kicks off from where Unearthly left us; with Clara not having fulfilled her purpose, instead of saving Christian as she was supposed to she ended up saving Tucker instead. Clara now has to deal with the consequences of making her decision, will she get another shot at her purpose or has she messed everything up? But then Clara starts having a new dream; it seems like she’s attending someone’s funeral, but whose? And is this dream really just a dream or is it actually meant to be part of her purpose? And her dream doesn’t help her with the decision she’s made; why is Christian in her dream and Tucker not? Are higher powers dictating again that she should be with Christian, even though she’s followed her heart and chose Tucker? Her dream leaves her even more conflicted than ever.My initial thoughts were what the hell just happened? There was just so much happening to get my head around. how can Cynthia Hand just end this book with Tucker and Clara going their separate ways? This clearly showed that Tucker was the better guy as he loved Clara so much that he let her leave. Oh I so wanted Tucker to pummel Christian some more! Hallowed answered some of the questions I had been waiting for ever since I finished Unearthly. But some of the answers I so wasn’t expecting Clara’s dad an angel? Meaning Clara’s not a Quatarius but a Triplare (3/4’s of an angel) thus a more powerful unique angel but also at a greater risk from the black wings. Speaking of black wings; Samjeeza and his unexpected appearances in the book left me with hardly any nails because of biting them so intensely and my heart was hammering in my chest at around 100 miles an hour. I really enjoyed his scenes, but after all the worrying over what he would do at Clara’s mum’s funeral. This black wing was badass in Unearthly but scampered away when against Clara’s dad and at the funeral, may be because of the build up I was expecting more may be some sort of ruckus but no everyone kind of went away quietly the whole Christian being a Triplare I didn’t see that coming either and Jeffrey’s big secret where the heck did that come from? Hallowed was also a really tough emotional read. I usually avoid books which deal with death and loss as I’m always a complete mess afterwards but I didn’t know Clara’s mum was going to die! First I was in a right old state because I thought it was going to be Tucker I felt like I couldn’t breathe when I found out, seriously what do these fictional characters do to me! But the whole losing Clara’s mum was so sad, it only felt like the other day that she broke the news to Clara that she was a part angel. And as she had all the knowledge on purposes and black wings I really wanted her to stick around longer Despite having a sombre feeling through the book, the humour greatly perked things up when I was feeling down. I especially liked the quotes which poked fun at other books “I never got the whole love-trianglething you know, in movies or in romance novels or whatnotwhere there’s one chick that all the guys are drooling overeven though you can’t see anything particularly special abouther. But oh, no, they both must have her. And she’s likeoh dear, however will I choose? William is so sensitive, he understands me, he swept me off my feet, oh misery, blubber blubber, but how can I go on living without Rafe andhis devil-may-care ways and his dark and only- a-little – abusivelove? Upchuck. So unrealistic, I always thoughtJokes on me, I guess” Also after finishing Hallowed it has left me completely torn between Tucker and Christian. I never thought I would feel this way as in Unearthly I was 100% team Tucker, but after this book I’m not so sure :-/ Tucker is probably slightly ahead in my view, but only by a smidge! Overall I did really enjoy Hallowed, but not as much as Unearthly. This is still my favourite angel book series by far. I eagerly await the third book where I’m sure Cynthia Hand the master of surprises will have several more tucked up her sleeve.
